ABC 10 News visited Spark Interactive at Canyon Hills High School in Tierrasanta on Sept. 15, where around 200 students explored the mobile Holocaust education experience during its first stop in the San Diego Unified School District.

Reporter Jared Aarons spoke with students about what they learned and how the interactive approach offered a different way to engage with lessons from the Holocaust.

Founding Director Darren Schwartz explained that Spark Interactive was designed not only to help students learn about the Holocaust, but to encourage them to consider what they will take from those lessons.

“We are looking to spark conversations. We are looking to spark action,” Schwartz told ABC 10. “So it's not just the learning of the material, but it's the 'so what' of it all. What will students take with them when they leave?”

Principal Dr. Erica Renfree said those lessons extend beyond the classroom, helping students make connections to current events, human rights and empathy.
