Spark Interactive Joins "Celebrating Together Stops the Hate" at MiraCosta College

On June 5, Legacy of Light Goldberg Institute for Holocaust Education was proud to participate in Celebrating Together Stops the Hate at MiraCosta College's San Elijo Campus, an event dedicated to fostering understanding, inclusion, and community resilience in the face of rising hate and discrimination.

Throughout the event, LLGI welcomed attendees on board Spark Interactive. LLGI welcomed students, faculty, and community members from across the region for guided tours and facilitated discussions that explored the enduring lessons of the Holocaust and their relevance in today's world. The experience provided participants with an opportunity to engage with history in a meaningful and personal way, while reflecting on the choices individuals and communities can make to create a more just and compassionate society.

Through meaningful discussions, the program connects the lessons of the Holocaust to contemporary issues of social justice, ethical responsibility, and civic engagement. Participants are encouraged to think critically about the consequences of prejudice and indifference, while exploring how empathy, courage, and action can help shape stronger communities.

The themes of Celebrating Together Stops the Hate closely align with LLGI's mission. As communities across the country continue to confront acts of hate and intolerance, educational experiences that promote understanding and dialogue have never been more important. By examining the history of the Holocaust and the dangers of dehumanization, students gain valuable tools for recognizing bias, challenging discrimination, and standing up for others.

For San Diego, these conversations carry particular significance. Our region is strengthened by its diversity and maintaining that strength requires a collective commitment to respect, inclusion, and mutual understanding. Events like this create opportunities for students and community members to come together across differences, learn from one another, and build connections rooted in empathy.

LLGI is grateful to MiraCosta College for hosting this important event and to the many students who participated in Spark Interactive's tours and discussions. Their curiosity, engagement, and willingness to grapple with difficult questions demonstrate the power of education to inspire positive change.

By learning from the past, we can better understand our responsibilities in the present. Together, we can continue working toward a future where hate has no place in our schools, neighborhoods, or communities.
